The Perfect Todos Santos Day Trip from Cabo

An hour north of Cabo San Lucas on Highway 19, Todos Santos is what happens when a 300-year-old mission town, a surf break, and an artist colony share the same palm oasis. It's the best day trip on the peninsula — if you pace it right.

The shape of a good day

• 8:30 — Leave Cabo with coffee; the Pacific-side drive is beautiful and easy
• 10:00 — Walk the historic centre: the mission, the Hotel California (enjoy the legend; the Eagles connection is folklore), and the brick-and-adobe gallery streets
• 12:30 — Lunch: fish tacos in town or a farm-table spot on the edge of the palm grove
• 14:00 — Beaches: watch surfers at Cerritos (the swimmable one, 15 minutes south) or walk the wilder Punta Lobos where fishermen launch through the waves
• 16:30 — One last mezcal or an espresso, then the golden-hour drive home

Worth knowing

• Galleries close for lunch and some close Sundays — mornings are best
• Between roughly November and April, ask about baby-turtle releases at sunset near Cerritos

Drive or be driven
